Platt is considered by many to be the greatest Chardonnay site in California and produces fruit that can be put up against great white Burgundy. This vintage was fermented and aged in a concrete egg in order to maintain the great freshness of the wine. With a Chablis-like texture, and nervy personality, the Platt Chardonnay has great richness and complexity. Aromas of pear, freshly cut nectarine, mint, wet sand and orange blossom. On the palate the wine is assertive and a pure expression of Chardonnay. The acidity is pronounced and luscious, and provides tension for the flavors of golden apple, peach, chamomile, and lime sorbet. The palate is full body, vibrant, juicy, sweet tannins front to back, dark fruit like blackberry and black currant with beautiful integration of the french new oak that adds another layer of spices and sweetness. Open top, with 10% whole cluster fermentation gives this wine intriguing aromatics with layers of herbs and spices.
